Introduction to Photography for Newcomer Seniors

Impact Statement Introduction to Photography for Newcomer Seniors is a new program made possible by New Horizons for Seniors grant. In this introductory photography program, newcomers 55+ will learn basic photography skills and capture what belonging means to them through a camera lens.

Description Create a positive, inclusive and welcoming environment for newcomers who are 55+ to learn and share; Develop content for a 6-week basic photography program series with other volunteers and library staff; Facilitate program including instruction, hands-on learning, and group discussions; Encourage storytelling and imagination through the art of photography; Provide support and direction to teen volunteers supporting the program; Help plan a final celebration and photography exhibition

Training / Work Condtions
Training Details: Volunteer training will take place in June 2024 (approx 2-3 hours) Working Conditions: Library space and program rooms Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers Transportation: On a bus route

Time Commitment
Duration: 4 - 6 months Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening Content creation will take place from July – August 2024 (approx. 10-15 hours) and the program series will run six weeks from September - October 2024 and January - February 2025 (2 hours per week)
