With ever-changing exhibitions and programming, THEMUSEUM presents a stimulating opportunity for a volunteer placement.

Description
THEMUSEUM is looking for energetic, bright, and artistic volunteers to join our team!

As a Volunteer Gallery Interpreter, you will get involved in important functions of our upcoming fall exhibitions. These tasks could include the following:

-Work alongside Interpreters (THEMUSEUM floor-staff) and other volunteers by providing excellent customer service to guests
-Public-facing role, expected to be able to converse & interact with guests
including:
-Directing traffic within the exhibition
-Answering guest questions
-Providing information on the exhibition experience
-Explain or interpret objects within the exhibition(s)
-Provide additional security to artifacts
-Attend all orientation and training sessions
-Work as a team member with staff and volunteers
-Purchase a volunteer shirt to wear on duty


Position Qualifications

Ideal for: An Individual, Student Placement
Age: 14+

Area(s) of Interest: Arts/Culture, Communication/Public Relations, Heritage/Museum

Skill(s): Customer Service, Public Speaking/Presentation Skills, Verbal Communication, Problem Solving, Empathy, Self-Motivation


Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Interview, orientation, and training to be scheduled after individual applies.
Working Conditions: Time spent actively listening. Some sites will be playing audio/music related to the subject matter and may create a louder environment
Must be comfortable standing/walking for periods of time
Must be able to lift a minimum of 10lbs
Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible entrance, Wheelchair accessible washroom, Designated accessible parking space, Support volunteers with special needs, Accessible work space, Support Newcomers
Transportation: On a bus route


Time Commitment

Duration: 4 - 6 months
Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening, Weekend - Daytime, Weekend - Evening, Anytime
3 hours per week, weekdays, weeknights or weekends.
