   About the Position

Impact Statement
Call to Action: We are looking to recruit people with lived experience and allies of the LGBTQ+ Community to volunteer on our new LGBTQ+ Support Line. Volunteers in the program may also choose to volunteer for our other lines as well.

Description
•Provide outbound calls to paired clients who identify as LGBTQ+
•TSP volunteers will complete safety/wellness checks, provide medication reminders, and engage in social conversations
•Social calls might include conversations about daily plans, sharing stories with clients, and exploring action plans for crisis intervention
•Engage in conversations with members of the LGBTQ+ community through texting support line
•Utilize a strengths-based, solution-focused approach
•May need to provide external resources and referrals to clients
•Staff will be available during shifts should any concerns arise

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: After completing the application, self-learning training and quizzes are made available to the applicant, once completed, they will then be invited to attend the group training that consists of role plays and scenario questions. Upon the completion of the group training, volunteers can then start Volunteering in TeleConnect or request 1 on 1 supervised training from a staff member.
Working Conditions: Must have access to secure and reliable internet connection during shifts and access to a private setting where calls can be completed without distraction

-Opportunity to enhance active listening and communication skills
-Flexible schedules (1-hour Teleconnect shifts; 2-hour Distress Line shifts)
-Freedom to work independently with staff supervision available to debrief/discuss concerns with
-Ability to expand knowledge surrounding community services, mental illnesses, homelessness, addiction/community resources, and coping strategies/grounding techniques, and more
-Gain experience documenting case notes, using strengths-based/solution-focused interventions, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
-Exclusive trainings hosted by other local social services and healthcare agencies (some previous trainings have been: Indigenous Ways of Healing from CAMH, Trauma Informed Care from the CMHA)
-Access to internal job postings and postings provided by community partners

Duration: 1 year or more

The program operates 8am-10pm, 7 days per week. Volunteers are able to set their own schedules based on shift availability.
