Position: Chinese (Lunar) New Year - Family and Community Traditions Education
Location: 10 Huron Road, Kitchener, ON, Canada
Impact Statement: To promote and enhance cultural diversity by providing students and visitors with information about cultural traditions and celebrations in our community. The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum is expanding the Grade 2 and 3 Social Studies program to include how traditions and cultural celebrations are passed on, preserved or changed in our community.
Description: Working with museum staff and curriculum requirements, Chinese New Year Traditions Program volunteers will share information about their culture and celebrations in a positive and enjoyable manner through presentations, music and hands on activities. Volunteers must have first-hand experience celebrating Chinese New Year. The Family and Community Traditions (FACT) is presented to grade 2 and 3 students in conjunction with the provincial Social Studies curriculum.
Training Details: Training will be provided by museum staff. The scheduled training date is November 14, 2019.
Working Conditions: Volunteers will be working indoors at Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum.
Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail: FACT Program runs from November 19 to Dec 20. The program runs Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons. Volunteers are welcome to help in accordance with their schedules and willingness to share their time.
