Position: Autism Program Volunteer - Sensory Saturdays

Description: Sensory Saturdays is a program for families with children on the autism spectrum presented by Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum in collaboration with A Balanced Approach. This two-hour program offers a safe and understanding environment where children can enjoy regular hands-on activities in museum galleries as well as discover new themed activities.

Volunteers must have a sincere interest in providing services that will benefit a person with autism. We are looking for volunteers who have a keen interest in gaining knowledge and experience working with children with autism. Previous experience working and interacting with children with autism is ideal for this role.
Training Details: Orientation and training will be held on Saturday September 7, 2019. Staff will be present at all times to provide support to volunteers. Volunteers will be provided instruction and support to participants at the activity booths.
Working Conditions: Activity booths will be set up in the museum galleries and museum classrooms.
Duration: 4 - 6 months
Timing: Weekend - Daytime
Time Detail: 2019 Sensory Saturday Dates: September 7 = Training day, September 21, October 5 & 19, November 2 & 16, December 7 Volunteer times: 9:15 am - 11:45 am
Volunteer must be able to commit to at least 4 of the 6 program dates.
