Impact Statement
United for Literacy (formerly Frontier College) is a national charitable literacy organization. We believe literacy is a right. We work with volunteers and community partners to give people the skills and confidence they need to reach their potential.

Literacy is recognized as a human right and a driving force to empowerment and prosperity. United for Literacy leads the effort in Canada to help people and communities reach their full potential through the power of literacy.

Description
The WPL Reading Buddies is a guided reading program run by United for Literacy, in partnership with the Waterloo Public Library held at the McCormick Branch. This program is designed to help children in grades 1-4 improve their social and reading skills in a safe, fun, and friendly in-person environment.

Volunteer literacy tutors are matched up with learners to engage in one-on-one reading. During the last part of each week's program session, the volunteer tutors will play educational game and activities with the learners to further develop their literacy skills. Our winter 2025 program session will run between 2:00pm-3:15pm from Feb. 1 until Mar. 29 (7 weeks, no program Feb. 15 and Mar. 8).
