   About the Position

Impact Statement
The Grand Valley Trail was built and maintained through a large network of volunteer maintenance workers who ensure a strong and safe trail system. A volunteer Board of Directors administers this not-for-profit organization and therefore we would not exist if not for our enthusiastic volunteers. As President, you provide the overall leadership and direction of the association.

Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of the GVTA trail, excellent organizational, planning and delegation skills is necessary.

As President, you ensure that the Board has a clear vision of its purpose and current priorities. and that the directors work in tandem to achieve the association goals.

Description
The President will represent the association and its interests to outside communities and organizations or delegates; - stay current on all major issues and items of business interest to the association and the hiking community; presides at all member meetings, board meetings, and planning meetings; chief spokesperson to media, community and membership on behalf of the association; final point of escalation on any issues, unresolved problems and occurrences; encourage and support directors, volunteers and members in all activities related to key goals of the association and the delivery of key initiatives; guides the development of the strategic plan and oversees implementation plans; convenes any special board or membership meetings; provides annual updates to members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM); ensures working relationships are in place with key stakeholders and suppliers; ensures through board leadership that member activities, events and communication needs are met.

Training / Work Condtions

Training Details: Orientation to the GVTA organization and board is provided to all directors.
Training to use the database and tools will be provided.
Current GVTA Guidebook will be provided to board members.
Working Conditions: With the exception of board meetings 10 times a year (currently handled remotely), most volunteer work is done independently from your home or office between meetings.
Board members must have access to a phone, a computer and the internet. As needed, the Directors will be required to find a suitable location (i.e. coffee shop) to meet with volunteers. Support and encouragement is to be provided in all manner: verbally, in writing, by active participation.

Administration Activities:
- chairs monthly board meetings, and, the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
- prepare reports to update the board on relevant issues
- reviews insurance coverage and ensures compliance with terms
- signs cheques and thank you letters to donors
- manage one-off issues and requests
- review and approve the annual budget

Transportation: Car required


Time Commitment

Duration: 1 year or more
Anytime
- Attend monthly board meetings (10 / year)
- Host a planning meeting typically held in the summer (date determined by board members)
- Chair the AGM
- participate in Association related events
- perform regular executive functions/planning/consultations as required.
- meet with board members and volunteers as required to respond to inquiries, resolve issues or plan activities (estimating about 4-6 hours weekly).
